On Saturday, November 8th, the Eel River Valley Chapter, National Society Daughter of the American Revolution (DAR) will award its Distinguished Citizen Medal to local Fortuna resident and military veteran, Martin Morris.
You are invited to join us in honoring this worthy veteran. Please arrive by 10:45am at 320 South Fortuna Blvd; at the main fire station in Fortuna.
Martin served in the US Air Force and was deployed to places as remote as Okinawa, Diego Garcia, Guam, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan.
For his service during Operation Enduring Freedom, the military awarded him the following military medals, and ribbons: The Good Conduct Medal, The Air Force Meritorious Unit Award, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Air Force Training Ribbon.
After his service in the US Air Force, Martin attended the Redwoods Police Academy at College of the Redwoods in Eureka, CA. He was promptly hired by the Fortuna Police Department where he worked until becoming a Criminal Investigator with the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office.
Martin continues to serve military veterans as Post Quartermaster for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2207 in Fortuna, California.
The DAR Distinguished Citizen Medal is presented to an individual who exemplifies honor, service, courage, leadership, and patriotism. It is typically awarded to emergency first responders, emergency health responders, active-duty military and veterans of the United States Armed Forces, and citizens who have contributed to the defense, security, or freedom of the community, state, or nation in an exceptional manner.
