College of the Redwoods Adult & Community Education will be offering "Communicating in American Sign Language" at the Fortuna Library, Wednesday evenings from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. Classes begin September 6th and run through December 13th.
This is a FREE, not-for-credit course for anyone interested in learning American Sign Language (ASL), including educators, service providers and any person who needs to talk with deaf, hard of hearing, or nonverbal people on a regular basis. Students will be introduced to the basics of ASL and the signs most used in daily life. Topics include signs related to everyday life situations, simple questions, and key cultural differences and expectations when talking with people who are deaf or nonverbal. This class is focused on practical skills.
