Fortuna Chamber Luncheon
We’re reaching out to the business community to support the formation of Neighborhood Emergency Response Teams, or NERT, throughout Fortuna. NERT was created after Hurricane Andrew in 1993 to equip residents with the skills and structure needed to assist one another during emergencies. Local businesses play a critical role in community stability and recovery. And, your employees spend most of their working day in your establishment and would benefit directly from NERT, and your support can help strengthen preparedness in your business and across the city. NERT teams are volunteer‑based and operate independently within each neighborhood or business group. Training is free, online, and self‑paced, with eight modules covering essential topics such as emergency first aid and psychological first aid. CERT provides training materials and ongoing support, and our certified instructors are available to meet with groups for additional training. Each business group ideally would select a leader and co‑leader to help coordinate communication and preparedness activities. We’re asking businesses to help by sharing information, encouraging employee participation, or hosting informational meetings. Your involvement can make a meaningful difference in building a more resilient Fortuna.
